Description:
Used to moisten the surfaces of gilding bases, containing hide glue or gelatin, immediately before laying gold leaf. The moisture from your breath "activates" the glue allowing metal leaf, such as gold, silver or palladium, to adhere to the gilding base. A reed tube controls condensation and absorbs excess moisture that accumulates as you breathe through it, preventing drops of moisture from forming and falling on your working surface. If drops fall on the base, unnoticed, the gold and base will come apart during burnishing. If they fall on the gold, subsequent layers will come off when applied.

How To Use
To use simply aim the tube at the area where metal leaf is to be laid, about 3 to 5 cm (1 to 2 inches) above the surface, and exhale strongly through the tube, allowing your breath to cover the entire area to be immediately covered. When exhaling, blow from the throat, do not puff from the mouth, as you want warm moisture to form on the base. Exhale slowly and evenly, about the length of a sigh, two or three times.
