Tour of Ukrainian Icons

The churches of Kyiv are some of the places we will visit on the Iconofile Tour of Ukrainian Icons
August 5-18, 2012
The 14-day Tour of Ukrainian Icons will visit many historical sites in and around Kyiv (Kiev), L'viv and Chernihiv, Ukraine. The tour focuses on ancient churches and monasteries, and the museums that contain some of the world's oldest Christian icons. This is a rare opportunity for artists, icon painters, clergy, students, instructors, collectors and anyone who loves masterworks of the ancient Christian art and architecture. This specially arranged tour for small groups (usually not exceeding 30 persons) visits the most important Christian sites of ancient Ukraine.
There are hundreds of Christian monasteries and churches in Ukraine that have survived wars, abuse and neglect over the last hundred years. During the past few decades the churches and monasteries of Ukraine have arisen from the ashes to flourish in the spiritual reawakening of the Ukrainian people. The tour visits the most important churches, shrines and monasteries of the Orthodox and Catholic (Eastern Rite) Churches where we see ancient works of art and architecture, immersing us in the rich, spiritual history of Eastern Europe.

This three-day workshop is an introduction to true fresco painting, presenting both the historical and modern concepts of the painting technique. The workshop will give you the skills needed to complete a fresco painting.
The course begins with hands-on instruction on preparing and applying the plaster. The cartoon is a color preparatory painting of the final fresco. Once finished and the plaster applied, the actual painting begins and is completed in one day. At the end of this workshop you complete a portable fresco to take home with you. The techniques learned in this workshop can be applied to wall paintings.
Who should attend this workshop? If you want to learn the technique of true fresco painting, and you are interested in the master works of fresco painting from the early medieval period to the Renaissance, then you should attend this workshop.
