Description:
Fr. Christopher P. Kelley, translator and editor
ISBN 0961854537
Publisher:
Oakwood Publications, 1997
Size: 216 x 275 mm (8.5 x 10.875 in.); 530 pages, Paperback.

Over 700 drawings of Saints and Feast Days of the Orthodox Church are contained in this tome to use as prototypes for painting full-color icons. The headnotes from the ancient Stroganov family podlinnik or patternbook are included and contain numerous color descriptions and notes. The source of this book upon which the English translation was made is the Stroganov Family's Icon Painter's Handbook, published in Slavonic in the mid-19th century from the 16th century originals. Pages missing from the original are reconstructed in this volume from other sources. This is an essential addition to any library for the faithful painting of ancient and traditional icons. The original narrative is supplemented with articles on the Staganov family and its school of icon-painting, a detailed alphabetical index, genealogical and historical data.

Availability: This book is temporarily out of print, but is expected to be preprinted in Fall 2004.
